Regarding Zelensky’s latest proposal, Trump said, “Zelensky has nothing without my approval,” and that it depends on “what Zelensky actually offers.”
Trump made these remarks in an interview with Politico on the 26th. He said that his meeting with Zelensky would go smoothly. Trump also stated that he would speak with Russian President Putin “soon” if he wanted to.
Politico commented that Trump is positioning himself as the “ultimate arbiter” of a Russian-Ukrainian peace agreement, and that this indicates “Ukraine’s fate largely depends on whether it can convince Trump that it has made sufficient concessions.”
