White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham said on August 7 that U.S. President Trump and his national security team are actively discussing possible options for “purchasing” Greenland. On the same day, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo revealed that he might meet with Danish officials next week to discuss the matter.
At a press conference that day, Grisham stated regarding how the U.S. might acquire Greenland, “The president will keep all options open, but diplomacy is always the preferred option.”
Also on August 7, Secretary of State Pompeo told reporters at the Capitol that he planned to meet with Danish officials next week to discuss the U.S. request regarding acquiring Greenland. He also stated, “Every president always retains the option of using military force, but we always prefer to resolve issues through other means.”
