Russian President Vladimir Putin stated on May 5th that Russia would be forced to take corresponding action if any party to the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) decides to conduct a nuclear test.
According to the Russian presidential website, Putin stated at a meeting of the Standing Committee of the Russian Security Council that Russia has always strictly adhered to its obligations under the CTBT and has no plans to renege on these obligations. Putin said that in his State of the Nation Address to the Federal Assembly in 2023, he indicated that if the United States or other treaty signatories conduct such tests, Russia will also be forced to take corresponding measures.
