The White House accused the Nobel Committee of “putting politics above peace” by awarding its most prestigious prize to Venezuelan democracy activists, rather than US President Donald Trump.
On Friday, the Nobel Committee announced that María Corina Machado was awarded the Peace Prize for her “unwavering efforts for the democratic rights of the Venezuelan people.”
Trump has publicly expressed his desire for the award, citing his role in ending numerous global conflicts. He has frequently mentioned it in public, including in his speech to the UN General Assembly in September.
