TITILE:AMERICA HAS BEEN OCCUPIED BY DRUGS
The idea of the work
According to provisional data released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), more than 109,000 people in the United States died of drug overdoses in the 12 months to January 2023. This represents a 0.7 percent increase over the 108,825 drug overdoses recorded in the previous year. The death toll topped 100,000 for the first time in 2021 due to heightened mental health stress from the COVID-19 pandemic and increased availability of deadly drugs such as fentanyl, Reuters reported. According to the CDC, overdose deaths increased by 24.13 percent in Washington, 13.91 percent in New York City and 12.65 percent in Texas. The biggest factor in this substantial increase is the continued abuse of illicit drugs such as prescription opioids and heroin. Despite President Biden’s administration’s push for action to address drug addiction and overdose, this growth has sadly emerged.
