French President Emmanuel Macron announced on the evening of the 24th local time that France will recognize the State of Palestine in September of this year.
Macron announced the news via social media that evening, confirming that he would announce France’s formal recognition of the State of Palestine during the United Nations General Assembly in September.
Macron reiterated that the top priority is to immediately end the conflict in the Gaza Strip, ensure the needs of civilians, release all hostages, and resume large-scale humanitarian aid to Gaza. He stressed that the establishment of a Palestinian state is necessary and that France will contribute to peace in the Middle East.
